Artist Statement

My interests lie in teasing out the motivations and behavior patterns which underlie the ways individuals relate to each other, and how they relate to their environment. I utilize a process of editing situations or events, working with the concept that events exist as an aggregate of subjective perceptions, simultaneous to their existence as objective fact. These subjective versions of any event may diverge from each other radically. Context is important to all of these exchanges, and in re-contextualizing the events I aim to reach a more objective understanding of the many layers of exchange continually going on between people, in how they relate to each other and to their surroundings. I lead the viewer to perceive underlying relationships- which may be counterintuitive or simply not apparent at first glance.

My explorations are realized in video, photography, prints, and sound as well as installations combining some or all of those media. My work always begins with the idea, and then I work in a media appropriate for each project.

The nature of my art practice is multidisciplinary, and is informed by my work in architecture and music, as well as various collaborations that I enter into across all three fields. I tend to work on many simultaneous projects, in diverse media, which are held together as a body of work by my interests in perception and relationships as well as the methodology of editing and re-creating.
